Trzy Korony (Three Crowns) is the highest and most famous peak of the Pieniny Właściwe range (982 m a.s.l.), recognizable for its characteristic five limestone pinnacles. At the top, hikers are rewarded with a spectacular viewing platform offering a beautiful panorama of the Dunajec Gorge, the surrounding mountain ranges, and, in good weather, even the Tatras. It is one of the most scenic viewpoints in all the Polish mountains!

Did you know that the summit of Trzy Korony actually consists of five peaks? Its name, ‘Three Crowns,’ comes from the three dominant tops that resemble a royal crown.

The easiest way to start the hike is from Krościenko nad Dunajcem, a picturesque town just 5 km from Szczawnica. Here we join the yellow trail, which leads all the way to Szopka Pass, commonly known as Chwała Bogu (Praise the Lord). Benches and, weather permitting, lovely views await along the way. The pass is less than 45 minutes from the summit.

Access to the observation platform is via a set of metal stairs. It holds around a dozen people at a time, so queues can form in peak season. The view from Trzy Korony makes every step worthwhile: the Dunajec River winds far below, framed by the Pieniny, Gorce, Magura Spiska, Beskid Sądecki, and the Tatra Mountains on the horizon.

During the season, access to the platform requires a ticket (which also covers Sokolica on the same day).
On the return, it’s worth taking a detour to the ruins of Pieniny Castle — about a 20-minute walk. This legendary site, linked to St. Kinga, makes a perfect end to the hike.

The route passes through Pieniny National Park and is not accessible to dogs.
