An adventure in the heart of the Pieniny

Rafting through the Dunajec Gorge is one of the region’s oldest and most iconic tourist attractions, drawing visitors back year after year. Organized rafting began as early as 1831, when Józef Szalay — founder of the Szczawnica Spa — launched the first trips on wooden rafts.

The route winds between the sheer cliffs of the Dunajec Gorge, whose slopes rise up to 300 meters above the river. It stretches for about 18 kilometers, from the rafting harbor in Sromowce Kąty to Szczawnica (estimated time: 2 h 15 min), or to Krościenko (about 30 minutes longer). During the trip on traditional wooden rafts, steered by experienced rafters in folk costume, visitors can admire the Pieniny’s most famous peaks, while hearing colorful stories about the mountains, local legends, and the rich history of this extraordinary part of Poland.

The rafting season runs from April 1 to October 31, except on Easter Sunday and Corpus Christi. Tickets can be purchased on-site or online, but due to high demand in summer, advance booking is recommended.
