Szczawnica is not only a picturesque mountain town, but also home to Uzdrowisko Szczawnica (Szczawnica Spa), which has a 200-year tradition. It is famous for its healing szczawy – mineral waters rich in minerals, ideal for treating respiratory, digestive, and urinary tract ailments, as well as osteoporosis and atherosclerosis. Uzdrowisko Szczawnica has 12 mineral water springs, which you can sample in the historic Mineral Water Pump Room on Dietl Square.

Józefina – the oldest spring, known before 1810. A sodium-chloride-bicarbonate mineral water, strongly iodinated (0.59%). Recommended for throat inflammation, asthma, emphysema, gout, and obesity.

Stefan – discovered in 1822, named after Stefan Szalay, founder of Uzdrowisko Szczawnica. A sodium-chloride-bicarbonate-iodine mineral water (0.48%) with over 9 g of mineral content per liter. Helpful for respiratory diseases, inflammation, urinary problems, and atherosclerosis.

Helena – drawn since 1966 from a borehole in the Lower Park. A sodium-chloride-bicarbonate-calcium mineral water (~0.18%). Thanks to its iron content, it supports treatment of anemia, lowers cholesterol, helps with osteoporosis, asthma, and digestive issues, and is used for inhalations and rinses.

Jan – discovered in 1869 and named after Jan Zielonka. A sodium-chloride-bicarbonate-iodine mineral water (~0.46%, 4 g/L mineralization). Used for drinking and bathing, for example in cases of kidney stones, respiratory diseases, and metabolic disorders.

Magdalena – known since 1939, used for gastrointestinal problems, obesity, and mild neuroses.

Wanda – discovered in the 1860s, a sodium-chloride-bicarbonate mineral water with high CO₂ content. Used for obesity, gout, and digestive disorders.

Szymon – known since the mid-19th century, used for stomach inflammation, obesity, gout, and respiratory illnesses. Natural medicinal water from Szymon is available at a public tap near the lower station of the Palenica chairlift (off Główna Street in Szczawnica).

Pitoniakówka – discovered in the mid-20th century, highly carbonated, recommended for digestive problems, obesity, and respiratory ailments. The Pitoniakówka mineral water spring is located on Skotnicka Street, about 630 m from Główna Street in Szczawnica.
