SZCZAWNICA

A scenic walk to Leśnica

DUNAJEC GORGE

This short, exceptionally picturesque route follows one of the most famous river gorges in Europe. A stroll along the banks of the Dunajec, at the foot of the Pieniny’s limestone cliffs, is perfect for a peaceful outing — ideal for families with children, cyclists, or anyone less experienced in mountain hiking.

The route follows the comfortable, paved Pieniny Road, which offers beautiful views along its entire length. We begin in the center of Szczawnica, heading south toward the mouth of the Grajcarek Stream where it flows into the Dunajec. Here begins the famous Pieniny Road — wide, comfortable, and almost completely flat — running through the gorge’s stunning scenery from start to finish. Along the way, we pass rafters steering traditional wooden rafts and several scenic viewpoints. Part of the route runs on the Slovak side of the border.

The stretch from the Flisaków Bridge in Szczawnica to the tourist center of Leśnica in Slovakia is only about 2.5 km.
