Sokolica Peak is one of the most famous and most frequently visited peaks in the Pieniny. Its popularity comes from a seemingly modest pine tree — and from the breathtaking panorama of the picturesque Dunajec Gorge, surrounding Pieniny peaks, and even the distant Tatras peeking over the horizon. The symbol of Sokolica is the iconic pine that has stood bravely on the edge of the cliff for hundreds of years, becoming an emblem of the entire Pieniny range.

We begin our hike at Most Flisaków (Raftsmen’s Bridge) in Szczawnica, where the Grajcarek River flows into the Dunajec. The trail first follows the scenic Dunajec Gorge, passing the Pieniny National Park Exhibition Pavilion before leading us toward the raft crossing.

Remember to check the operating hours of the raftsmen when planning your trip. The crossing runs from April 15 to October 31.

On the other side of the river, the trail leads up a steep but well-maintained blue trail. After about an hour of climbing, we reach Sokolica Peak (747 m a.s.l.), where a fantastic panorama opens up over the Dunajec Gorge, Trzy Korony Peak, and, in good weather, even the Tatras. At the top, we admire the famous ancient pine tree, which has become a true symbol of the Pieniny.

During the high season, there is an entrance fee to climb Sokolica. The ticket also allows you to enter Trzy Korony Peak on the same day. A hike to Sokolica is the perfect idea for a one-day trip — both for families with children and for anyone looking to feel the magic of the Pieniny landscapes and escape from everyday noise.

The trail runs through the Pieniny National Park and is not accessible to dogs.
